Earth rocks (also conscious?)

It is easy to find the beauty of nature in living things, in animals, plants and even cell structures. But when it comes to rocks, we often think of inanimate objects with no particular beauty.

I explore this very topic in this project. I seek to reveal the natural beauty of minerals and crystals. The resulting images are in many cases surprising to me. The inner structures and colours of such elements are often striking and surreal, revealing otherworldly landscapes.

As we move from complex beings to simpler life-forms and eventually to rocks, can we be sure that consciousness ceases to exist in a solid mass of geological minerals? After all, the theory of quantum mechanics contains the notion of quantum entanglements, in which atoms interact at some level and remain connected, even if at great distances.

Although art is unlikely be able to address that question conclusively, one thing is clear: nature works its magic on rocks, too.
